Male Fertility Test in Coimbatore
Testis Biopsy is a simple surgical procedure where sample of testis is aspirated and the tissue is observed under microscope.
A Testis Biopsy is done to find out whether sperm production in the testis is normal or not.
This is the "Gold Standard" test to see testicular function.
Here in Sakthi Fertility, Udumalpet, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu; Testis Biopsy is done in World Class Standard.
There are 2 types of Testicular Biopsy,
• Percutaneous Testicular Biopsy
• Open Surgical Biopsy
1. Percutaneous Testicular Biopsy
There is no need of an incision or stitches (performed via skin, no incision). A small fine needle is used for this biopsy. After that a needle is inserted through the scrotal skin into the testis and taking a sample of tissue is drawn into a syringe that is attached to the needle.
A variation of Percutaneous Testicular Biopsy is a core needle used to take biopsy, where a spring loaded needle is used to draw out a cylinder of cells. This method used to collect a larger sample of tissue is obtained compared to fine needle biopsy.
2. Open Surgical Biopsy
It involves making a surgical incision in the scrotal skin area and obtaining a sample of testicular tissue, after that followed by the closure of the incision using stitches or sutures.
Testicular Biopsy is done in Male infertility patients with
• Abnormal sperm function
• Blockages that prevent the delivery of sperm
• Decrease sperm count (Oligospermia)
• Absence or diminution of sperm production (Azoospermia)
• In Sakthi Fertility, Testicular Biopsy is done in finding the cause of infertility
• This is usually done after evaluation of patients based on clinical history, blood work and semen analysis are inconclusive. It is also done to recover sperm to utilize it in the process of In-Vitro Fertilization
• Testicular Biopsy can be performed under a Local or General anesthesia
• The procedure is performed as day-care surgery in an outpatient clinic in hospital settings
• The Biopsy usually takes 15 to 20 minutes
• The patient is lyed on his back and then the scrotal skin and surrounding areas are cleaned with used antiseptic solution. it is used to remove bacterias
Open Surgical Biopsy
• A Diagnostic Testicular Biopsy is making an incision in a scrotal area, cutting a skin in 2–3cm could allows enough exposure of the Tunica Albuginea of the testis
• Make a small incision in the capsule of the testicular of about 0.5cm is made for obtaining a biopsy of about 3×3×3mm. For adequate classification of Spermatogenesis, then the removed tissue should contain at least 100 Seminiferous Tubules
• The tissue should not be squeezed with a forceps because of this may disrupt testicular tissue architecture and hamper proper evaluation of the Seminiferous Tubules • After completing the procedure, the wound is closed with absorbable suturesPercutaneous Testicular Biopsy
• An alternative to an Open Diagnostic Testicular Biopsy could be performed by a Transcutaneous Puncture of the testis with use of either a true-cut needle or a Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA)
• The advantage of FNA of the testis is that it does not require surgical equipment and experience, and can be performed in an outpatient setting under Local anesthesia
• Mild pain in your scrotum
• Mild swelling of your scrotum
• Bleeding than the expected through the bandage
• Fever higher than 100°F (38°C)
The risk factor is negligible if done by expert fertility specialists who take special care, so that no harm is incurred to the internal organs of the patient.
When done under proper anesthesia and with expert fertility specialists, the procedure is least painful.
The patient may be advised to follow certain precautions such as:
• Advised to keep the biopsy area dry
• Advised to use Acetaminophen for pain and discomfort
• Advised to avoid Aspirin for at least a week after undergoing the Testicular Biopsy
• Advised to avoid sexual activity for one or two weeks
• Advised not to use an athletic supporter for a few days after the procedure
A sample of the testicular tissue is sent for pathological examination. After the Pathologist examines the tissue under the microscope, and the results are usually available within 48 to 72 hours.
• The Pathologist will be able to evaluate the degree of Spermatogenes present in the testes. That is sperms may be absent due to which the person is infertile and another one is sperms may be absent from the semen but present in the testes because of an obstruction in the Vas deferens
• Testicular inflammation or infection: such as infection like Tuberculosis or Orchitis may also be diagnosed by a biopsy• Spermatocele: Presence of cyst on the ducts of the testes may also be diagnosed by microscopy
• Testicular Cancer: Carcinoma in situ can also be diagnosed
