Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is also an Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) used to treat the people who have sperm-related infertility problems. ICSI is used, if IVF doesn't works during the fertilization phase of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) by injecting a single sperm into a mature Oocyte. The fertilized egg grows in the laboratory under suitable conditions to form an Embryo. The Embryos are then placed in your Uterus to initiate Pregnancy.
ICSI is used to treat Male infertility problems and when the sperms cannot be able to penetrate into the eggs easily and for those who need donated sperms. At Sakthi Fertility, we have given new hope to many couples who are unable to conceive with the ICSI treatment. With best ICSI specialists in Coimbatore and Tamilnadu, India. Sakthi Fertility is proceeding with high success rate. Sakthi Fertility is one among the best fertility clinics in Udumalpet providing proper diagnosis and treatment with ART procedures.
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is suitable for most types of Males having only a few good sperms available for Fertilization.
• Low Sperm Count
• Absence of sperm in the ejaculate due to blockage in their reproductive tract that prevents the sperm from getting into ejaculate
• Impaired ability to move (Sperm motility)
• Abnormal shape of the sperm (Sperm Morphology)
ICSI can also be helpful in rare cases of Male infertility, such as:
• Men who have problems with sperm binding to the egg and penetrating the egg
• Anti-Sperm Antibodies (protective proteins or immune which attach to the sperm and destroy them)
• Prior or Recurrent IVF Failure with standard IVF culture and Fertilization methods
• Sperms which are collected and frozen for the persons who are under Cancer treatment that may be limited in number and quality
• Absence of sperms in ejaculate due to blockage. For them, Sperm Retrieval Technique is done either from the Epididymis by a procedure called Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (MESA) or from the testes by Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA)
At Sakthi Fertility, we follow a channelized procedure for ICSI Treatment. Our Fertility specialists in Udumlapet have the initial stage of an extensive discussion with the infertility couple. This helps them to understand why they need to go for ICSI Treatment and what are the steps involved in the process. As we are the best fertility clinics in Udumalpet, believe in sharing or plan of action with our patients. We want to guide them to have a uniformed decision making for Male infertility treatment.
Ovarian Stimulation
During Menstrual cycle, a Woman normally produces one egg. But IVF requires multiple eggs. To produce more eggs you will receive fertility medications and multiple eggs increases the chances of developing a viable Embryo. Your doctor will monitor you through ultrasound for the production and growth of eggs and will perform regular blood tests and your doctor will decide when to retrieve eggs.
Retrieval of eggs
Egg is retrieved from the ovaries and is known as Follicular Aspiration. It's a surgical procedure performed with anesthesia. Your doctor will use an ultrasound guided needle through your Vagina into your ovary and into an Egg-containing Follicle. Suction of eggs and fluid out of each follicle through the needle.
Insemination of sperms
Semen sample will be collected from the Male partner and the sperms are washed in the laboratory and a single sperm is injected into an oocyte.
Embryo Culture
In laboratory, the Embryologists will monitor the fertilized eggs to ensure that they're dividing and developing. The Embryologists may undergo tests for Genetic conditions of the embryos.
Embryo selection
The Embryologist selects the most viable Embryo or Embryos to place in your Uterus three to five days after the retrieval of eggs. If there are many extra Embryos it may be frozen and used for future IVF cycles.
Embryo Transfer
The Embryos are transferred after their growth is monitored for 2 or 3 days. Transferring of Embryos involves inserting a thin tube called a Catheter inserted into your Vagina cervix and into your Uterus. Your doctor then releases the Embryo into your Uterus by slowly pushing the syringe. This process employs anesthesia as well. The Embryos gets attached itself with the uterine wall in the period of 6-10 days and Pregnancy occurs. Pregnancy can be determined with a blood test called Beta HCG after 10 days of Embryo transfer.
ICSI is not effective to treat infertility in Women having poor egg quality, i.e., Female factor infertility.
The side-effects may vary. The patient is generally sedated during the Embryo transfer process so that she does not experience any pain. ICSI Treatment is done by the trained and highly-efficient Embryologist of Sakthi Fertility makes look easier that it actually is.
There are certain risks involved with the procedure like
• Multiple pregnancies has high risks for both mother and baby
• Birth defects for babies
• Chances of Miscarriage are higher as the process involves sperm that could not otherwise fertilize the oocyte
• The child may inherit the Genetic disorder. The Male child conceived through ICSI Treatment may inherit the infertility problem of his father
However, chances of the baby having major birth defects are only around 1.5% to 3% very similar to babies conceived naturally
At Sakthi Fertility, we ensure that the couples undergo a complete investigation for Genetic and Chromosome related abnormalities. This ensures that the baby does not inherit any of the Genetic disorders.
The success rate of ICSI Treatment is somewhat similar to that of IVF ranging around 30%-40%. However, younger Women have higher success rate. Sakthi Fertility provides the best ICSI treatment in Tamilnadu, India.
• 40% for Women of age 34 and under
• 31% for Women of age 35 to 37
• 21% for Women of age 38 to 40
• 11% for Women of age 41 to 42
• 5 % for Women of age 43 and over
Well, there are chances that you may not be able to conceive even after an ICSI Treatment. In this process, nearly 50% - 80% of the eggs get fertilized. Failure for ICSI treatment has various reasons like
• The age of the Women
• Low quality sperm or poor quality of eggs
• The Embryo may not develop or stop developing after a certain stage
• Chromosome related problems or lack of optimal blood flow to the Uterus
It is very difficult to bounce back after a failed ICSI Treatment. We understand that it is quite nerve wrecking to accept the fact that you do not see success even after taking up such expensive treatment and enduring so much trouble. It is quite natural that you might think to stop the treatment.
We at Sakthi Fertility can understand you more than anyone else does. We would advice you against quitting the treatment process. Quitting means putting an end to all efforts that you have taken to reach so far. We are just a few steps away, waiting to show you the right direction.
